Can a Business Run Multiple Zones or Cities on Lunar?
Yes. Draw several target areas around one location, or add a city with its own plan and term. How expanding coverage works, what it costs and what to know first.
Yes. A business on Lunar can cover more ground in two ways: draw several target areas on the map around one location, or add a second city to the same account. Each city is its own campaign with its own plan, term, target areas and cars, so you can start small and grow where it is working. Half Moon starts at $500 a month for 2 cars, and there is no multi-city discount: two Half Moons cost $1,000 a month.
Two ways to widen your coverage
The word "zone" can mean two different things, so it helps to separate them.
- More target areas in one city. A business sets target areas on a map, each one a point and a radius. You can draw more than one, for example one around the shop and one around the neighbourhood where most of your customers live.
- More cities. One account can run in as many Lunar cities as you like. Each city is a separate campaign, with its own areas, plan, term and cars.
Several target areas in one city
Each target area is a circle with a radius, and a circle is capped at 5 miles in the US or 10 km in Canada. That cap is the same for a business's service area and a driver's "Where you drive" circles. If your customers come from more than one part of town, the answer is more circles, not bigger ones.
Lunar's team offers matches by overlap between your areas and the places drivers say they drive. Nothing tracks where a car goes and there is no GPS, so a target area tells the team where to look for drivers. It is not a fence around where your sticker will be seen. For more on how this works, read how Lunar chooses zones.
A city with no target areas drawn is held: matching does not start until there is at least one. Drawing two or three well-placed circles is a better start than one huge guess.
Adding a second city
If you have a location in another market, or a brand that wants to test one, you add a city from the Campaign screen in the app. Everything that belongs to the business stays on one account: your brand, your approved sticker design, your card and your notification settings. Everything that belongs to a place is per city.
- Plan and term: each city picks its own. One city can be Half Moon on a 3-month term while another is Full Moon on 6 months.
- Target areas: drawn separately for each city.
- Cars: each city has its own cars and its own matching.
- Deposit: the $50 deposit is per city, taken when you tap Start matching in that city. It counts toward the plan, or is refunded if no driver is found in 7 days.
There are two limits. All the cities on an account must be in the same country, because billing and matching are per country. And the city has to be one where Lunar is live, across the US and Canada. If yours is missing, you can ask to be told when it opens. See pricing for the plans.
What it costs to expand
Plans are priced per city on the same two plans as everywhere: Half Moon at $500 a month for 2 cars and Full Moon at $1,500 a month for 7 cars. The plans differ only in the number of cars and the price. Full Moon works out about 14% cheaper per car ($214.29 against $250.00), and a six-month term is 10% off every month for the same number of cars.
Apart from the $50 deposit, nothing is charged until your first sticker is on a driver's car. After that, billing is per sticker: each charge buys 30 days of verified driving, and a car that is not carrying your sticker is not billed.
What the reach looks like
Lunar uses one estimate: 70,000 impressions per car per day, the top of the industry estimate for a wrapped vehicle (OAAA, published by AdQuick and 4OVER4). It is an estimate, not a count of people who noticed your sticker.
- Half Moon, 2 cars: about 4,200,000 estimated impressions a month, a CPM of about $0.12.
- Full Moon, 7 cars: about 14,700,000 estimated impressions a month, a CPM of about $0.10.
- Two cities on Half Moon: 4 cars in total, each city with its own 2 cars and its own estimate.
Should you add areas, add a city, or move up a plan?
If customers come from one metro area, start with a plan that suits the size of the market and draw two or three target areas. If you are already getting seen in your home city and want the same presence in another, add that city and run it as its own test. If you want more cars in the same place, change the plan for that city.
Removing a city is possible only while it has no live or incoming cars, and you cannot remove your last city. Terms are binding, so an early cancel still owes the rest of the term; pick a length you are comfortable with.
How to start
Set up your first city, draw your target areas, approve the design our team makes and choose where the QR code on each sticker sends people: a website, a phone number or an email. Lunar counts scans only. Then tap Start matching, and Lunar's team offers your sticker to local drivers. Matching takes time, and nothing sets a number of weeks. Read how it works for the full path.
Frequently asked questions
Can I advertise in more than one city on Lunar?
Yes. One account can run in many cities, each as its own campaign with its own plan, term, target areas and cars. All cities on an account must be in the same country and in a city where Lunar is live.
Is there a discount for running several cities?
No. Each city is priced on its own plan. Two Half Moon plans cost $1,000 a month. A six-month term is 10% off every month for the same number of cars.
How many target areas can I draw?
You can draw more than one. Each circle is capped at 5 miles in the US or 10 km in Canada, so cover a wider area with several circles rather than one large one.
Do I pay a deposit for each city?
Yes. The $50 deposit is per city, taken when you tap Start matching. It counts toward the plan, or is refunded if no driver is found in 7 days.
Can I remove a city later?
Yes, while it has no live or incoming cars. You cannot remove your last remaining city.
